The project

The Days grew out of the experience of “SensoriAbile too,” an experimental project that lasted almost two years and began in 2023 to promote a sensitive and more welcoming culture towards people with visual disabilities within the city of Padua.
The project was conceived and implemented by Robert Hollman Foundation, Uici Padua, University of Padua, City of Padua and Aniomap, under the patronage of Hospital Company of Padova and Ulss 6 Euganea.

Through participatory paths of relational and social awareness, the project involved nearly 30 managers and more than 100 operators (officials, employees, collaborators…) from 12 public and private services in the city of Padova.

Starting with a remote viewing of a documentary on visual impairment, individual groups of participants then experienced an experiential mode of visual deprivation within their workplaces, guided by multidisciplinary teams (orientation and mobility instructors, psychologists, educators, therapists…).

Through this kind of experience, the operators were able to bring back to each other reflections, different points of view, critical issues of the spaces they experience every day and difficulties in the ways they relate to each other. They then worked out together solutions and strategies to implement environmental facilitators (color-contrasting stripes on the ground to indicate routes to users, documents written in accessible characters, braille signage…) and relational facilitators (more verbalization to describe the space and services present, willingness to accompany…).
Finally, an illustrated paper vademecum was offered as a reminder with some of the main facilitators identified.

An environment, an object, a book, an event… “sensoriabile” are characterized by multisensory aspects that not only facilitate accessibility and inclusion for people with visual or hearing impairments, but are able to enrich the experience for all.
In other words, something “sensory able” is conceived and designed to stimulate multiple senses simultaneously, providing a more complete and immersive experience. This approach not only supports those with sensory difficulties, but also creates a richer environment that can be appreciated by all, improving quality of life and promoting an inclusive and welcoming culture.
