Program for citizens

Are you ready to discover all your senses? Even those we often underestimate?

Installations and exhibitions, a dinner in the dark, accessible visits, inclusive workshops and readings, meetings, sports demonstrations… all in the name of multi-sensoriality!

The calendar dedicated to citizens includes several proposals aimed at meeting in a way that is out of the ordinary. By sharing the same experiences, we will discover something new about ourselves and the world of visual impairment.

Day 1 – Saturday 10 May

Sight, hearing, touch, smell… each sense allows us to explore the Museum in a unique way! On the occasion of SensoriAbile Padova Days, the MUSME offers a special multisensory guided tour for families, designed to welcome and enhance the different ways in which people interact with the Museum.

In addition to listening to the guides’ explanations and taking advantage of the technologies present along the tour route, visitors will be allowed to touch various exhibits and to live the experience in an even more immersive way. Every visitor, adult or child, will be able to discover the History of Medicine in their own way!

The visit will be conducted by Museum staff together with students from the Liceo Amedeo di Savoia Duca d’Aosta of Padua, as part of a PCTO project in collaboration with MUSME and the Robert Hollman Foundation.

A musical performance carried out in total darkness is a proposal aimed to know and approach visual disability through the creative expression conveyed by music and the direct involvement of the audience.

The concert includes a performance in total darkness and interaction with the participants, using new ways of approach and involvement, transmitting indelible sensations, emotions and suggestions to the audience, who will have the opportunity to learn about and approach visual sensory disability and enjoy the creative expression conveyed by music in a situation of total darkness.
The event includes four distinct phases of individual experience for each participant.
At the entrance, in a normally lit space, a short ‘convivial’ moment with a welcome drink offered by a member of the organising staff (blind person).
With a short walk along a path wearing a blind mask, participants will be accompanied and guided by the same staff person until they reach the concert venue.
While wearing the mask and collaborating in the performance of the music, simple choral parts will be sung under the guidance of the band.
At the end of the concert, when the mask has been removed, there will be an opportunity to share the experience with the audience.

Who is a guide dog? How long is its training? Did you know that future guide dogs can be ‘adopted’?

At the Icevi Europe Conference at the San Gaetano, the volunteers and instructors of the Scuola Triveneta Cani Guida will be available to the public with some of the puppies in training or who have completed it to answer any questions and to present their initiatives and activities.

In addition, it will be possible for young and old alike to take a blindfolded test run along a short route outside the Cultural Centre together with a guide dog who will lead the experience safely.

Hands-exploring-tactile-patterns

Are hands able to see?

by the MUSME – Museo di Storia della Medicina in Padova, in cooperation with Museo dell’Occhiale di Pieve di Cadore  and ManMano – Atelier Artistico

from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

MUSME – Museum of the History of Medicine in Padua | via San Francesco 94, Padua

Cost: Museum entrance ticket (free of charge for people with a disability and their accompanying person)

Our hands, instead of long eyelashes, have fingers, and instead of a nice round, central pupil, they have a palm. So what? Can our hands see?

In this activity, in collaboration with the Pieve di Cadore Eye Museum and ManMano – Artistic Atelier, through games and experimentation, we will discover how our hands are able to read the reality around us. We will make big hands and small hands talk to each other and make them explore different materials, to understand how to make them tell a small story.

The activity is for boys and girls aged 4 to 6 accompanied by a parent or adult.

Tactile and acoustic workshop for families. Also suitable for the visually impaired.

The interactive workshop starts by analysing through touch a series of skulls belonging to the most common species of dolphins present on the Veneto coast. During the tactile analysis, participants will discover the characteristics of the skull, the peculiar shape, the characteristic teeth and above all the precise point on the skull responsible for echolocation, i.e. that particular sense that enables cetaceans to find their way around even in the dark.
A second part of the activity involves a team game, in which each team will consist of two members. Of these, the first will be blindfolded, while the second will have the arduous task of giving directions to enable them to overcome a series of obstacles along the way.

The comparison in the dolphin world is as follows: the mother dolphin represents the dolphin who has to give directions, the son dolphin is the one who has to receive them in order to overcome interference from human activities. As among cetartiodactyls, the dolphin child will only be able to reach its mother if it has listened carefully to her instructions.

Everything we know, even ourselves, is made up of bricks built into the stars. To get to know them, surprisingly, we do not have to go into space, but into the silence and darkness of an underground tunnel, from where it is possible to discover the origin of matter.

The project involves the development of various integrated tools, including the creation of a tactile scale model of the new Bellotti Ion Beam Facility, located in the underground laboratories of the Gran Sasso, to be accompanied by activities and in-depth multimedia material.
